How to make your own subliminal audio

A practical guide to writing affirmations, recording a voice track and mixing it beneath background sound.

A subliminal audio track combines spoken affirmations with a louder background sound. Making one means choosing the words, recording them and balancing the two audio layers.

1. Pick one specific goal

Write down the situation you want the track to address. “Confidence” is a topic. “I want to contribute in meetings without rehearsing every sentence” gives you something to write about.

Keep unrelated goals in separate scripts so you can review each one clearly.

2. Write the affirmations

Start with a short list of lines you understand and want to hear. Use your own wording. For the meeting example:

  • “My ideas are worth sharing.”
  • “I can pause and find my words.”
  • “I can ask a question when I need more information.”
  • “I don't need a perfect sentence to join in.”

Read the script out loud. Remove lines that feel irrelevant or awkward. You can use “I,” “you” or your name; keep the perspective consistent if switching between them distracts you.

There is no required affirmation count. A script you have checked is more useful than a long list added just to reach a number.

3. Record the voice

Record yourself in a quiet room or use text-to-speech. Listen to the voice on its own before adding anything else. Check pronunciation, missing words, abrupt cuts and unwanted noise.

Keep a copy of this original recording and your script. They make later edits easier.

4. Add a background and mix

Import the voice and a music or nature recording into separate tracks in an audio editor. Use background audio you have permission to use.

Repeat the script for your chosen duration, then lower the voice beneath the background. Check the beginning, middle and end so the balance stays consistent. If the background has quiet gaps, the voices may become more noticeable there.

Masking describes the audio mix. Being unable to make out the words does not establish whether a track will produce a particular result.

5. Export and check the file

Export a copy, then play it on the device you will use for listening. Check for sudden volume changes, clicks and an abrupt ending. Set the playback volume for comfort; there is no universal phone-volume percentage.

Choose a duration that fits your day. You can listen to part of a track or stop whenever you want.
